About company
The BAH represents the interests of around 400 member companies with around 80,000 employees who make a significant contribution to securing the supply of pharmaceuticals in Germany.
It is therefore the branch association of the pharmaceutical industry in Germany with the largest number of members.
The Federal Association of Drug Manufacturers (BAH) is the branch association of the pharmaceutical industry in Germany with the largest number of members. It represents the interests of around 400 member companies that employ around 80,000 people in Germany. Globally active pharmaceutical manufacturers are just as actively involved in the diverse association work as the broadly represented medium-sized companies.
In addition to pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacists, lawyers, publishers, agencies as well as market and opinion research institutes in the health sector are also members of the BAH.
The companies organized in the BAH make a significant contribution to securing the supply of pharmaceuticals in Germany. They provide almost 80 percent of the non-prescription drugs sold in pharmacies and almost two thirds of the prescription drugs, as well as the majority of the material medical products, for patients.
In terms of patient safety, self-medication with advice from a doctor or pharmacist and compliance with pharmacy obligations are of particular concern to the BAH.
Contact for politics and science
With its high level of technical and technical competence, the BAH is a close contact for politics, authorities and institutions in the health care sector and a strong link between the various interest groups. In addition to the political activities of the BAH, the association's activities are characterized by broad scientific groundwork in the pharmaceutical sector. The BAH collects and evaluates information about pharmaceuticals and draws up statements on processes in the pharmaceutical sector.
The BAH handles these logistical tasks through its offices with around 45 employees. The work of the association is supported and shaped by the board of directors and numerous committees and working groups.
Internationally networked
The establishment of the European internal market has made it necessary for pharmaceutical manufacturers to represent their interests in the direction of the EU Commission and the European Parliament. In Europe this is done by the European Association of Drug Manufacturers (AESGP). The AESGP was founded in Paris in 1964 and has had its headquarters in Brussels since 1990. The BAH works beyond the borders of Europe in the World Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (Global Self-Care Federation).
